Shosholoza can warm a heart

How watching a grainy YouTube clip with bad audio from 2009 can warm a heart in a cold and wet London in 2011.

The YouTube clip is set in the Free State stadium (Vodacom Park), Bloemfontein just before the start of the 2009 Confederations Cup match between South Africa and Spain.

So how can such an old, grainy video clip warm a heart? You can see and feel the expectation and jubilation in the crowd. Shosholoza is warmly performed and received and in tune! It builds up to the match between Bafana Bafana and the world power that is Spain.

But, most of all, the proudness of the people shines through! The electricity and expectation for a successful world cup the following year is tangible.

If this optimism continues, the future is bright for the South African people.
